How to become an open water diver
Becoming an Open Water Diver is the first step in your scuba adventure. We make sure you are truly comfortable with the skills and equipment you will use. Getting started is easy. Sign up for an Open Water Course today and expand your horizons!
1. Theory
The training material is online and designed so that you can learn the academics at your own pace, when it is convenient for you.
2. Recap what you’ve learnt
Once you have completed your online theory, you just need to pop through to our dive centre in Gordon’s Bay and go through any questions you might have. After that, you write a quick test to make sure you understand all the important aspects of scuba diving.
3. Have fun learning skills in the pool
Once you’ve completed the theory and test, we can get into the pool. We have a heated indoor pool at Indigo Scuba, built especially for scuba diving courses.
For your pool and open water training, we will ensure you have the right equipment so that you become comfortable in your “second skin”. You will have plenty of practice time to adapt yourself to the underwater environment before you begin your open water training dives.
4. Your open water dives in the sea
Once you feel comfortable and are able to complete all your skills in our pool, we’ll take you into the sea for 4 qualifying dives! You’ll get to experience the world from a completely different and exciting perspective.
5. A Qualified Open Water Scuba Diver
Once you have completed your initial training, you will be a certified Open Water Scuba Diver, able to dive to depths of 18 metres, anywhere in the world.
Further training
SSI Scuba Certifications are recognised worldwide so your diving experiences will be limitless. The fun doesn’t need to stop here! With just a little more training, you can go even further – imagine diving in underwater shipwrecks, with sharks, or becoming and underwater photographer!
